Biography / History

Nicolai Berezowsky (1900-1953) was a Russian born American violinist, conductor and composer, member of the Coolidge String Quartet. He was the first violinist of the New York Symphony Orchestra for six seasons since 1922. Acquisition Note: Gift ca. 1954.

Abstract

The collection contains official correspondence of Nicolai Berezowsky with the American Society of Composers, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the League of Composers, Juilliard School of Music, David Diamond, Serge Koussevitzky, Nicolai Loptanikoff, Ormandy Eugene and music publishers. There are also press clippingson Berezowsky as a violinist and composer, private correspondence with family members and friends, private notes, financial records and photographs of his daughter Alexandra. Arrangement in Series: Official and private correspondence(1929-)1934-1953,Personal Papers 1936-1952. Special Note: Collections of Nicolai Berezowsky private papers and music works are also to be found in the holdings of the New York Public Library, Performing Arts-Music Library and also at the Columbia University, Rare Book and Manuscript Library in New York City.
